Maverick Viñales Ruiz was born in Rosas, Girona in 1995. He is a Spanish motorcycle rider who was Moto3 World Champion in 2013. Since 2015, he has competed in the Moto GP World Motorcycle Championship, finishing third in 2017 and 2019 with Monster Energy Yamaha. Since 2021. In 2013 he was proclaimed world champion in Moto3 in the last round of the World Championship held at the Ricardo Tormo de Cheste circuit in Valencia. In the 2014 season he competed in the Moto2 category with the Pons Racing team. Since the 2015 season, he has competed in the MotoGP category with the Suzuki team. On May 19, 2016, he signed a two-year contract with Movistar Yamaha MotoGP to replace Jorge Lorenzo starting in the 2017 season, ended his relationship with Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP by mutual agreement midway through the 2021 season and debuted from of the Aragon GP with Aprilia Racing Team Gresini.

He is the cousin of Isaac Viñales, also a motorcycle racer.

His father named him "Maverick" after the main character in the 1986 movie Top Gun . He began racing motorcycles at the age of three. Since then, he has won all the children's and youth championships in Catalonia. In 2002, he was proclaimed Runner-up of Catalonia (50cc) and in 2003 he was the great dominator of the season in the Metrakit MiniGP category. At the age of 12, he was proclaimed Champion of Catalonia in the PreGP 125 category and runner-up in the Mediterranean Trophy, achievements that he surpassed in 2008 by revalidating his title of Champion of Catalonia in PreGP 125 and also winning the title of Champion of the Mediterranean Trophy (PreGP 125 ). The natural leap to the CEV was made in 2009, finishing second and maturing continuously until he was proclaimed 125cc Spanish and European Champion in 2010.
