Alpine F1 Team is a Formula 1 team of French origin with a factory in Enstone, United Kingdom. It is owned by Renault, which competed in the premier class under that name until 2020.
The Alpine brand, of sports and competition cars, was founded by Jean Rédélé in 1955. The company achieved great success with the marketing of the A110 sports coupe, launched in 1961. At that time, the brand and Renault already had a collaboration: the diamond firm already sold Alpine at its dealerships.
In the 1960s Alpine entered the world of rallying and in 1971 they became European champions. Two years later they became world champions with their A110 1800 and the Renault Group bought the brand and became the majority shareholder.
Their rallying success led them to set a new goal, to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. They succeeded in 1978. Now, 40 years later, they enter Formula 1 thanks to Renault's commitment to strengthen the brand.
On July 8, 2020, the team announced the signing of Fernando Alonso for the 2021 season, which implies the return of the Asturian after two years out of Formula 1. Two months later, on September 6, it was announced that Renault would go to called Alpine. On January 14, the transition became official and the French showed their 2021 car, the A521, provisionally decorated with the French and British flags.
The team's objective is to win races again with the 2022 rule change, the same goal that Renault set itself with its return to the category with its own team in 2016. Since then, they have fought in the middle zone and in 2020 they rose to the podium twice, an upward trajectory but still far from the lead.
