Nicholas Patrick Hayden , better known as Nicky Hayden (born in Owensboro, Kentucky in 1981 and died in Cesena in 2017), was an American motorcycle racer who competed from 2003 to 2016 in the MotoGP category of the Motorcycle World Championship. He was proclaimed world champion in the 2006 season, and was third in 2005, fifth in 2003 and sixth in 2008 with Honda; from 2009 to 2013 he was a Ducati rider. In his record he achieved three wins and 28 podiums. He was nicknamed Nicky and The Kentucky Kid (The Kentucky Boy).

Entered into competition in the FIM Superbike World Championship with the Honda CBR1000RR SP, he was hit by a car on public roads while riding a bicycle, near Rimini (Italy) on May 17, 2017. He suffered severe trauma to the head and chest, and was taken to a local hospital, where he was diagnosed with brain damage and broken ribs, femurs and pelvis. The brain damage was so serious that it was not possible to operate. On May 22, 2017, he died due to the seriousness of the injuries.
